Android Immersion inside Enterprise Mobile Solutions - an Update

Karl Pauls, Clement Escoffier, Akquinet

The openness of the model underlying Android makes the platform very attractive for both, software and hardware developers in the mobile space. However, one of the most interesting properties of this new and emerging platform is how well it is suited to be used as part of enterprise mobile solutions. Building dedicated hardware that needs a complete software stack on the one hand and readily available off-the-shelve devices for software deployment makes Android an Android powered devices an ideal candidate for building enterprise mobile solutions.
The last year, we presented how Android devices can be integrated into SOA-based enterprise mobile solutions and how it fits into the overall enterprise model. This talks reports on how this integration was successfully driven as well as the encountered issues such as connectivity disruption, security and synchronization. This talks also present how we achieve an unusual degree of reuses. Specifically, we will zoom into how we can reuse parts of our server code as well as other readily available open source software on the Android powered mobile device and how to connect and integrate them into a SOA-based / REST-based IT infrastructure.
